Here are some tips that I saw over at ehow when you are driving around on how to keep your passenger safe.

1. Do you have extra items on your passenger seat or dash board? Lap tops, Cell phones, PDAs, CD cases, etc. can become a deadly weapon if you are in an collision. Keep all of your extra items in the glove box, center console, or arm rest pockets. This will reduce the risk of these items flying around the inside of your vehicle upon collision.

2. Do you carry groceries, Game boy system, books, and more in your backseat or use the cargo area of your SUV? Did you know if you are in a head on collision at 35 miles per hour, a 1 pound can of beans on your back seat will have the force of 100 pounds as it is flying around your car? This is enough force to kill someone you love or seriously injure someone. Ordinary, items can become deadly weapons within your vehicle. Even using the cargo net is for normal driving situations and not for collisions. Use a cargo barrier or the trunk of your car. You can also secure items with ropes or bungee cords to help hold the filled grocery bags and other items. If you should still place items in the back of your vehicle; be sure to set the items on the floor. This will help somewhat if you are in an accident.

3. Be sure everyone is buckled up properly. Use the child safety seats. Follow directions that came with the seat, as to how to properly use them. Some police stations can inspect the car seat for you, to see if you have properly installed it correctly.

Have fun and be safe!
